Lenzing is one of 14 partners in this network of excellent institutes and companies, which is devoted to the training of young academics by their research projects. The targets of the participating organizations are to develop materials from various polysaccharides, mainly cellulose and starch. A common aim is a better understanding of the properties, functions, and techniques in the processing of polysaccharide-based materials. Lenzing is contributing by hosting a PhD study on „The role of water in cellulose fiber structure“.

A total of 67 participants from the network and beyond attended the first annual meeting of the project, organized by the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Macromolecular Chemistry, Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena, Germany. There were presentations of 12 lectures and 9 posters. There were also 6 training sessions from Visiting Scientists and Invited Speakers.
